“Making the Most of Our Community Investment”

Muskowekwan First Nation Moshums & Kookums in Residence

In 2009, the Muskowekwan First Nation implemented a program “To Honor and Respect the Cultural Teachings of the Native Code of Ethics” to facilitate the restoration and enhancement of cultural identity and connections with the youth of their community.  Part of this program includes Elders in the programming at Muskowekwan School.

The Elders in residence participate in home visits, promoting pride in their culture, support school programming, and most importantly of all facilitating communication between families, students and the school.

The success of this program can be contributed to the involvement of the Elders who share their wisdom and experiences thus making a positive impact at the school and in the community.
